The Jones Act does two things:(1) It protects seamen if they are injured on the job and (2) it protects the jobs of American seamen. Certainly, in today's economy, it goes against all common sense to give jobs to foreign seamen in the Gulf of Mexico when our U.S. seamen our out of work.
